What to Expect for 2018

January 6, 2018

Happy 2018!

From a historical weather standpoint, 2017 was another weird one but I can’t help but wonder; what IS normal? From August 30th 2016 through March 2017 we experienced, regionally, the driest period in recorded history. This was followed of course by heavy, wet snows that began the first day of Spring and continued on through Mothers’ Day resulting in massive storm damage to many trees and shrubs. The Summer wasn’t particularly extraordinary but here we go again, from last Fall up to the printing of this letter we are again facing severe drought conditions. Reminiscent of 2016 – 2017.

These conditions are, once again, creating stress to our trees and shrubs. This stress not only results in an overall loss of vigor, growth and beauty but is also a precursor to many insect and disease pathogens. Winter watering during these extended periods of warm, dry, windy weather conditions is crucial in keeping your landscape healthy. We can help with this; give us a call to schedule an appointment.

Emerald Ash Borer has continued to spread through Boulder County and has now been found in Lafayette. Currently, Knothead Tree and Lawn does not have any customers close enough to these affected areas to consider specific treatments to prevent Emerald Ash Borer. However, I am still recommending preventative treatments for your Ash trees for the continuing and ever-present Ash / Lilac Borer.

In summary, PRAY for snow (now, not in May), winter water, deep root fertilize in the Spring, treat preventatively for bark boring insects in the Spring and get your trees pruned up before we get heavy, wet snows that will damage them.

Thank You for your continued business, we greatly appreciate it and look forward to seeing you soon!

All the Best,

Brett
